Job description

Under the supervision of the director of Student Success, the assistant director of Student Success/academic advisor supervises the academic advising staff with emphasis on academic planning, and advising retention initiatives.

This position is also responsible for assisting the director of Student Success in scheduling advising staff, implementing retention initiatives, supporting career services initiatives, coordinating first and second year student experiences, assuming degree audit responsibilities and other advisement initiatives as instructed by the director.

As a member of the academic advising team and Student Services department, the person in this position will also perform other related duties as assigned by the director of Student Success and will be committed to NACADA standards, and facilitating KCC's initiatives to promote student academic success and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities
  • A. Supervises and schedules student success advising staff.
  • B. Organizes the coordination and implementation of the new student orientation/registration process, including budgetary management related to the process.
  • C. Collaborates with the Director of Student Success with retention initiatives including the implementation and utilization of a retention software program.
  • D. Assists the Director of Student Success by overseeing and evaluating advising retention initiatives and Career Services..
  • E. Serves as a student success advisor to assigned students. Assists students with the development of their educational plans and career goals.
  • F. Participates in staff development initiatives and remains knowledgeable in the utilization of student academic records, assessment information, advising techniques, student advisement, and other topics that improve and enrich the student advisement process.
  • G. Reviews and updates colleague information including degree audits, course pre-requisites and exceptions.
  • H. Maintains cost-efficiency in budget management.
  • I. Participates on college committees as assigned, including but not limited to the retention committee and academic appeals.
  • J. Acts as the main contact in the absence of the director of Student Success.
  • K. Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of the annual commencement ceremony.
  • L. Plans day/evening and occasional Saturday hours for the purpose of academic advising, and other student services related functions.
Qualifications
  • A. Master's degree required. Coursework or experience in, student retention, academic advising or student services preferred.
  • B. Three to five years of related work experience required. An understanding of and experience with academic advising, career advising and retention highly desirable. Bilingual preferred.
  • C. Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, and computation skills, as well as strong computer experience with Microsoft office, Student Information Systems or comparable software applications.

Hiring range: $66,407/yr. min. - $76,368/yr. 1st quartile - $86,329/yr, mid.
