Posting Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Director SPVR for the Study of Jewish Life Center. Reporting to the Academic Director of the Bildner Center, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Humanities Director of Administration, this position is responsible for the Center's administrative, programmatic, financial, and personnel management, as well as coordination of its public outreach initiatives. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Coordinates and facilitates the strategic plans developed by the Academic Director and the Center's faculty and professional advisory bodies.
  • Provides administrative support to ensure the Academic Director can advance new initiatives and strategic partnerships on campus and in the community.
  • Assists the Academic Director in representing the Center's core mission to the larger Rutgers community as well as to various stakeholders (e.g., alumni, community groups, and national leaders and organizations) in order to expand the Center's visibility and reputation.
  • Supports the Academic Director 's community initiatives; working with Center's leadership, assist in developing strategic marketing plans; integrating Bildner Center visiting scholars in community activities and campus life; supporting the work and mission of the Center by promoting activities and programs that address tolerance, understanding and reduce bias, including administrative support of the Rutgers Holocaust Resource Center; and working with SAS and University partners (Communications and Foundation) to build strategic partnerships.
  • Helps carry out academic and cultural programs, created by the Academic Director and affiliated faculty, for the public, including the Rutgers Jewish Film Festival, academic seminars, and public educational programming, such as online courses.
  • Manages all fiscal, personnel, and operations functions of the Center, supervises the Center's full-time staff, hourly staff, and student employees.
  • Provides comprehensive oversight, coordination, and supervision related to administrative support functions and policy interpretation; purchasing; personnel administration (for both faculty and staff); space and facilities planning; and business and financial processes and transactions.
  • Resolves a wide range of complex and diverse issues in alignment with the Center's mission, vision, role, and strategic goals, as well as those of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), drawing on a thorough understanding of administrative and office management principles, applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that the Academic Director is fully apprised of all financial, operational, and administrative activities of the Center through regular reporting, ongoing communication, and strategic consultation.
  • Provides timely updates on budget status, personnel matters, program operations, and emerging issues, as well as offering data-informed recommendations to support decision-making, planning, and resource allocation.
  • Establishes performance standards, conducts staff evaluations in consultation with the Academic Director, and exercises authority in hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination of Center staff.
  • Works independently under broadly defined objectives with limited oversight, with accountability focused on overall outcomes and effectiveness.
  • Performs advanced professional work requiring specialized knowledge in one or more areas of management and administration, and demonstrates a strong command of relevant concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a humanities or social science field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in program development/management that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Jewish history and the Jewish community, and of the academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree and eight years of experience.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and build strong professional relationships.

  • Ability to work some evenings and Sundays.
