Job summary

Buffalo State University is seeking an Assistant Director for the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program to advance academic opportunities for honors students on campus.

This position is internal and focuses on advising, supervising student staff, and coordinating events and communications. The role requires collaboration with faculty and campus partners, managing newsletters and social media, tracking student progress, and contributing to orientation and outreach efforts to recruit new honors

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related area of study.
  • Experience advising, mentoring, supervising, and/or teaching college students.
  • Proven track record of engaging students in events and activities.
  • Detailed knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, and newsletter tools.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and website management.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekend program events.

Responsibilities

  • Teach HON111 Introduction to Honors or HON444 Honors Senior Seminar as needed.
  • Supervise approximately 20 student peer mentors, graduate assistants and interns.
  • Coordinate Honors Program events and special programming; evaluate the Leaders program.
  • Assist with recruitment/outreach for Honors students and manage communications.
  • Support data management, assessment, and reporting for the Honors Director.

Assistant Director, Muriel A. Howard Honors Program

Internal applications are being accepted for the position of Assistant Director for the Muriel A. Howard Honors Program. This is an internal job posting limited to active employees at SUNY Buffalo State who are currently paid from any state‑appropriated‑funds payroll.

Position Summary

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teach HON111 Introduction to Honors each fall semester or teach HON444 Honors Senior Seminar or other courses in specialty as needed.
  • Supervise approximately 20 student peer mentors, graduate assistants and undergraduate interns.
  • Coordinate Honors Program events and special programming, implement and evaluate the Honors Leaders peer mentoring program, coordinate Honors Ambassadors for Admissions events and special programs, and assist with all summer orientation events.
  • Assist with recruitment and outreach for prospective and new Honors students, manage social media accounts and maintain the website, develop, publish and distribute the Honors Program newsletter, coordinate weekly communications to the Honors Program students, faculty and stakeholders, and assist with outreach to Honors alumni.
  • Assist in tracking and reviewing student progress, provide data management, assessment and reporting support to the Honors Director, serve as the first line liaison for various campus partners, and assist the Honors Director with other projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
