Job summary

The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking an Assistant Director for Facilities Services to lead and coordinate facilities operations on the Main Campus, including Custodial, Grounds, Garage, Signs & Keys, Move & Events, and Maintenance & Construction.

The role shares oversight with another Assistant Director and requires a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience; professional certifications are preferred. UT Dallas offers a comprehensive benefits package and on‑site work.

Responsibilities

  • Management of Physical Plant operations in the absence of the Director of Facilities Services & Operations.
  • Oversees the operations and staff of multiple FM shops, including Custodial, Grounds, Garage, Signs & Keys, Move & Events and Maintenance & Construction.
  • Directs personnel management for those under his/her purview, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensures the quality of customer service and responsiveness of maintenance and operation support to University community.
  • Administers several contracted university services through GPO, RFP, developing bid specifications and contract documents for contract work.
  • Oversees workplace safety at all locations and liaises with Institutional Risk & Safety and end users toward that goal.
  • Participates in the budget planning process, including staffing, budget requirements, identifying potential cost increases, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Responsive to after-hour emergencies, inclement weather; keeps supervisors informed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities Services & Operations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and an acceptable driver rating.

Job Summary

Responsible for the management of the Main Campus facilities services operations and programs (Custodial, Grounds, Garage, Signs & Keys, Move & Events, and Maintenance & Construction). Shares responsibility with another Assistant Director for the management of department operations in the absence of the Director of Facilities Services & Operations.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Three plus years relevant professional experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Trade certification as a journeyman, master, or specialist in a field used by the UTD Facilities Management organization.
  • Five (5) years’ experience related to university or institutional facilities.
  • Professional certification as a Certified Educational Facilities Professional ( CEFP ), Certified Facility Manager ( CFM ), or Facility Management Professional ( FMP ) .
  • Graduate of APPA’s Institute for Facilities Management.

Other Qualifications

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

  • Participates in the budget planning process, including staffing, budget requirements, identifying potential cost increases, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and an acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
