Job summary

University of Nebraska–Lincoln seeks an Associate Director of Academic Advising Initiatives to oversee advising, onboarding, and student success within the College of Arts and Sciences. Responsibilities include coordinating new student enrollment, supervising advising staff, and leading advisor training.

The role requires 5 years in higher education advising, strong leadership, and collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in higher education advising with evidence of 1:1 student interaction.
• Ability to learn and explain extensive university/college requirements, federal law, policies and procedures.
• Experience using a variety of technology platforms.
• Must have strong leadership skills and supervisory experience.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight of academic advising, new student onboarding, and student success initiatives.
• Coordinate college participation in new student enrollment and orientation programs.
• Supervise, develop, and assess professional advising staff.
• Lead advisor training and workload management.
• Support college-wide retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives.
• Maintain a limited advising caseload while providing complex academic guidance.
• Collaborate with academic departments and campus partners to improve student success outcomes.
• Participate in assessment, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
