Job summary

KnitWell Group in New York seeks an Assistant Designer to support the Designer in executing seasonal collections for knits and sweaters. You will help develop concepts, color stories, fabrics, and flats, while preparing boards and presentation materials.

The role requires 1–2 years in design, strong sketching skills, and keen fashion sense. Collaboration across teams, calendar discipline, and proficiency in Photoshop/Illustrator are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of design experience.
  • Experience with knits/sweaters preferred.
  • Strong sketching/illustration ability.
  • Creative and fashion-focused mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing seasonal collections, fabrics and colors to maintain brand identity.
  • Prepare line review materials, concept boards, fabric and color boards and flat sketches.
  • Contribute to line assortment building and cohesive collection presentations.
  • Attend fittings and provide input; record detailed notes.
  • Maintain design logs, line sheets, boards and archives library.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal clients to ensure design calendars are met.

About the role

The Assistant Designer assists the Designer with the execution of seasonal collections, fabrications and colors that maintain the brand identity. Assists in the development, concept and design of the Sweaters category. Prepares Line Review presentation materials, concept boards, fabric and color boards and flat sketches. Embodies the company’s Values & Practices by maintaining effective collaborative relationships, taking pride in the company and brand, embracing diversity in all facets of the position and representing a hunger for knowledge and responsibility

The impact you can have
  • Assists in the preparation of design specification sheets, both flat and technical sketches, pitch sheets and trim sheets

  • Contributes to conceptualization and implementation of the line; Prepares presentation boards highlighting fabric, flats, and figure sketches; Assists in set up of all Spectrum and Concept presentations

  • Participates in line assortment building and line presentations with the goal of creating a cohesive and exciting collection

  • Attends all style fittings and provides input/feedback as necessary; Keeps detailed notes from all fittings

  • Maintains product development logs, line sheets, boards and design archives library

  • Adheres to cross‑functional calendar and attends meetings as required

  • Builds collaborative relationships with vendors and internal clients

You’ll bring to the role
  • Bachelor’s degree equivalent in Design

  • Experience with knits/sweaters preferred

  • 1-2 years’ experience in Design

  • Creativity and enthusiasm for fashion

  • Strong sketching and illustration ability

  • Ability to identify color and fashion trends

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel and all other Microsoft Office Applications
