AKRF, Inc. is seeking a Senior Resource Director (Assistant Controller pathway) in New York, NY, to support the Controller in accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls.

The role offers leadership growth within an engineering consulting context and a clear path to the Controller position for the right candidate. Qualifications

• The candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA is preferred.
• At least 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with 3+ years in senior roles.
• Experience in architecture/engineering/environmental consulting is highly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of project-based accounting, FAR, and indirect cost rate calculations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
• Ensure compliance with FAR, GAAP, and other regulatory frameworks.
• Support audits and liaise with auditors as a key contact.
• Provide financial strategy support to CFO and leadership for long-term planning.
• Prepare accurate financial reporting for executives and the Board.
• Develop and mentor accounting staff and foster a high-performance culture.
• Collaborate on budgeting, job costing, and profitability analysis with project managers.
• Maintain accounting policies and internal controls; manage indirect cost rate submissions.
