KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting has partnered with a high-growth organization in the Greater Portland area to hire an Assistant Controller to join its accounting and finance team.

This onsite role in Portland, ME offers hands-on responsibility, opportunity to lead month-end close, financial reporting, and process improvements within a collaborative environment.

Compensation range is $115,000 to $135,000 DOE, with benefits and room for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong general ledger and month-end close experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
• Strong Excel skills and experience working with an ERP/accounting system.

Responsibilities

• Support the Controller with day-to-day accounting operations and the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other general ledger activity.
• Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and management reporting.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and other accounting functions as needed.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Coordinate and support year-end audit activities and preparation of audit schedules.
• Help maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and overall efficiency.
• Provide guidance and support to accounting team members and assist with workflow management.
• Support the Controller and broader finance team with special projects and other financial analysis as needed.
