Why this opportunity is different
A profitable, privately held global manufacturing related company in the greater Portland, OR area is growing revenues 20%+ year over year — and the finance function needs to scale with it. This isn’t a big-company bureaucracy role or a sleepy maintenance position. It’s a high-visibility seat where you’ll help architect the processes, the team, and the infrastructure that the next chapter of growth is built on.
The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and leads the accounting function across U.S., Mexico, and European entities — with a clear trajectory for advancement as the organization continues to expand.
THE ROLE
This is a full-ownership accounting leadership position. You'll sit at the center of a complex, multi-entity global operation — driving the monthly financial close, overseeing consolidations across domestic and international subsidiaries, and serving as the connective tissue between accounting, operations, and finance. Day to day, that means leading a team, owning the numbers, and partnering with external tax advisors on transfer pricing and cash repatriation. You'll also have a hand in shaping the policies and controls the organization runs on.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the full monthly close cycle — including journal entry review, account reconciliations, and variance analysis — across U.S. and international subsidiary ledgers
- Direct the global consolidation process across all entities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals; maintain quality standards across daily accounting operations
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders in operations, A/P, A/R, and GL to meet all financial reporting deadlines in compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable local requirements
- Manage quarterly intercompany transfer pricing billings and calculations; liaise with outside tax advisors; oversee timely repatriation of cash
- Produce quarterly and annual financial statements; coordinate year-end audit deliverables with external auditors
- Continuously evaluate accounting workflows and lead implementation of process and systems improvements
- Support the development and ongoing maintenance of accounting policy and internal controls frameworks
- Prepare complex, non-recurring financial analyses and special reports for senior leadership
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-haves
- Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field (Bachelor's required)
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams (2+ years in a people leadership capacity)
- Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, consolidations, financial reporting, and cost accounting — ideally in an industrial or manufacturing setting
- Track record of owning large cross-functional initiatives such as ERP implementations, integrations, or system migrations
- Hands-on experience with multi-entity, multi-currency environments
- Advanced Excel skills; comfortable in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong communicator — able to translate complex financial data clearly for non-finance audiences and senior leadership
Heavily Preferred
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience with a Tier I or a Tier II ERP system
WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE
The right person for this role is energized by complexity and ambiguity — not paralyzed by it. They can zoom out to see the strategic picture and zoom in to catch the detail that matters. They build trust quickly with cross-functional partners, communicate financial complexity in plain language, and are equally comfortable presenting to the Controller as they are rolling up their sleeves with the team. Growth-stage accounting is different from steady-state accounting, and the best candidate will see that as an opportunity, not a problem to manage around.
GROWTH & TRAJECTORY
The company is adding revenue, entities, and geographic complexity every year. The Assistant Controller who comes in today will have the opportunity to grow their scope, lead larger teams, and step into a larger role as the organization continues to scale. This is not a dead-end seat.
