Job summary

Marsh seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to join the Controllership team, supporting US GAAP/IFRS, SOX compliance, and financial reporting across multiple countries. The role is hybrid, based in California or Bogotá, with at least three days in the office each week.

You will lead complex accounting entries, ensure accurate financial statements, and guide staff while partnering with FP&A, Tax, and Accounting Operations teams. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in finance, business administration, accounting, economics or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in same roles, preferably within the insurance industry.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in team leadership and people management, preferably within the insurance industry.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with fluency in English (C2) and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Support the strategy and definition of Controllership objectives (including automation priorities).
• Ensure the integrity of financial information in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS standards.
• Control cash flow.
• Ensure a clear communication plan regarding audit results and control issues.
• Review significant variances in reconciliations and the monthly closing; approve complex journal entries; maintain GL accounts and balance sheet accuracy.
• Analyze revenue and expense reports; coordinate accruals; ensure timely monthly/quarterly close; perform variance analyses.
• Provide guidance or training to less experienced accountants and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Develop position papers on policy/financial reporting topics and prepare statements and disclosures.
• Support hiring, performance evaluation and succession planning for Controllership team.
• Provide executive summaries on department performance and risks to Controller.
• Maintain communication with Controllership, FP&A, Tax, Accounting Operations, and other related teams.
• Own SOX/internal control environment and remediation of control gaps; act as final decision-maker for escalations.
• Be accountable for KPI targets and team performance; communicate audit outcomes and control issues.
• Review internal processes and procedures and offer recommendations to improve policies; assist in transitions onshore/offshore as needed.
