Job summary

The Bolton Group is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead daily accounting operations and strengthen financial reporting. This role will support the Controller with strategic initiatives, improve workflows, and drive overall financial performance.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
• 5–10 years progressive accounting experience in Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant role desirable.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience required.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end close, journal entries, and financial statement prep.
• Ensure general ledger accuracy through reconciliations and schedules.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis with leadership.
• Oversee AP/AR workflows, payroll review, and daily accounting operations.
• Strengthen internal controls and compliance with GAAP.
• Assist Controller with reporting, audits, and process improvements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally for timely, accurate financial data.
• Provide guidance to accounting staff and support team development.

Our firm is partnering with a rapidly growing organization to identify an experienced Assistant Controller who can provide strong leadership within the accounting function. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who excels in managing daily accounting operations, strengthening financial reporting processes, and supporting the Controller with strategic and operational initiatives. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in ensuring accuracy, improving workflows, and enhancing overall financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead core Assistant Controller functions including oversight of month-end close, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
• Manage general ledger accuracy through detailed reconciliations and review of supporting schedules
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in partnership with leadership
• Oversee AP/AR workflows, payroll review, and daily accounting operations
• Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and compliance with GAAP
• Assist the Controller with reporting, audit preparation, and process improvements
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure timely and accurate financial data
• Provide guidance to accounting staff and support team development

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CPA track preferred)
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in an Assistant Controller or Senior Accountant capacity
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience
• ERP system proficiency and advanced Excel skills
• 3-5 years of leadership experience desired
