Vaco by Highspring is seeking an Assistant Controller for our Midtown, Manhattan office, on-site five days a week. The role oversees fund accounting, administration, and in-housing transitions, driving close processes, cash planning, and internal controls in partnership with the CFO.

Responsibilities include coordinating with a third-party administrator, managing capital calls and distributions, assisting with LPAs, portfolio valuations, audits, and fundraising reporting.

• Administrator Oversight: liaison between CFO and fund administrator for accounting, reporting, and deliverables across funds, SPVs, and co-investment vehicles.
• Capital & Fee Management: review/validate capital calls, distributions, fee calculations, expense allocations, investor-level accounts.
• LPA & Transaction Analysis: interpret LPAs and docs to ensure proper accounting treatment and deal flow alignment.
• Valuation & Audit Support: coordinate portfolio valuations and quarterly/annual audit process and reporting.
• Investor & Fundraising Support: assist with due diligence requests, DDQs, and reporting during fundraising cycles.

Fund Accounting & Administration

• Administrator Oversight: Serve as the primary liaison between the CFO and the third-party fund administrator to oversee accounting, reporting, and deliverable accuracy across funds, SPVs, and co-investment vehicles.
• Capital & Fee Management: Review and validate capital calls, distributions, management fee calculations, expense allocations, and investor-level capital accounts.
• LPA & Transaction Analysis: Interpret LPAs and transaction documents to ensure proper accounting treatment, fee mechanics, and deal flow/fund flow alignment.
• Valuation & Audit Support: Partner with the investment team on portfolio valuations and coordinate the quarterly/annual audit process and financial reporting.
• Investor & Fundraising Support: Assist with investor due diligence requests, DDQs, and specialized reporting during active fundraising cycles.

Management Company Operations & In-Housing

• In-Housing Transition: Drive the transition of management company accounting from the external administrator to an in-house function.
• General Ledger & Month-End Close: Take full ownership of day-to-day accounting, cash reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accruals, and month-end/year-end closes.
• Financial Planning & Controls: Manage cash forecasting, budgeting, and intercompany expense allocations while partnering with the CFO to scale internal controls and accounting infrastructure.
• Ad Hoc Analytics: Lead special projects, financial modeling, and operational analyses for senior leadership.

Tax & Compliance

• Tax Preparation & K-1s: Collaborate with external tax advisors on partnership tax returns, K-1 generation, and supporting allocation schedules.
• Audit & Regulatory Compliance: Compile schedules and documentation for annual audits, regulatory filings, and external advisor inquiries.
