Job summary

City of New York seeks an Assistant Commissioner – Older Adult Centers to oversee daily operations of over 300 centers serving about 150,000 seniors annually. Lead staff, ensure contract oversight, and drive program design with data-driven methods.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college with a baccalaureate degree and five (5) years of full-time, professional experience in social services, community relations, public administration or management; at least 1.5 years in administrative/managerial capacity.
• Education and experience equivalent to the above; however, 1.5 years in administrative/managerial capacity is required.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, onboard, supervise, coach and mentor staff, interns and volunteers to achieve performance standards.
• Manage program officers and supervisors who oversee contracts and provide technical assistance to nonprofits.
• Ensure fidelity of site visits; rigorous documentation; escalation and resolution of issues; and thorough review of data, records, contracts, budgets and invoices.
• Streamline and standardize oversight practices through updates to standards, policies, procedures, and monitoring tools.
• Launch, lead and/or manage projects to address service gaps and emerging performance issues.
• Use performance data, stakeholder feedback, and research to guide program design and redesign.
• Build partnerships with NYC Aging teams responsible for quality and operations.
• Mobilize teams to keep older adults safe during emergencies and seasonal cooling/warming periods.
• Lead and participate in special initiatives advancing the agency's mission.
