Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Civil / Cables Engineer to support licensed engineers on diverse power projects, including underground and submarine cable lines. You’ll assist in design, drawings, and field tasks across high to medium voltage systems.

The role emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, and analytical problem solving, with opportunities to contribute to bid and project activities. Strong communication and CAD skills are essential.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program. ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of electrical power flow preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
• Basic distribution design software experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsabilités

• Assists in underground power line design from conceptual phase through design completion, including electrical, civil and mechanical principles.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for projects involving 13-500kV lines.
• Assists in designing power line components and related drawings.
• Applies basic knowledge of civil and electrical engineering concepts within the industry.
• Assists with research and data collection for project managers.
• Assists with updating drawings using CAD software under supervision.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
