Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to support design teams on critical electrical infrastructure projects across the Northeast. You will work under licensed engineers to adapt civil plans through design and construction phases, ensuring alignment with budget and client needs.

The role emphasizes civil design, workflow collaboration, and hands-on CAD/revision work in a fast-paced environment. Preference given to graduates with internship experience and EIT candidacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; ABET preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience desired.
• Fundamental civil engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically with strong problem-solving.
• Proficient with MS Office; basic CAD software skills.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D and related analysis tools.
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork.
• Leadership potential; EIT preferred.
• GPA 3.0+ preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist civil design from concept through design completion.
• Perform site access design, grading, earthwork modeling, hydrologic/hydraulic calculations.
• Support soil erosion, sediment control, and stormwater management per guidelines.
• Prepare SWPPP and stormwater studies.
• Assist with civil construction specs, quantity take-offs, and bidding support.
• Review submittals, RFIs, and as-builts.
• Help modify and review drawings across CAD software.
• Contribute to field inspections and measurements.
