Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Columbus, OH seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to support project teams from concept through design completion. You will work under a licensed PE and adapt civil plans to meet budget and client needs across power, process, healthcare, and more.

The role emphasizes CAD updates, data collection, and collaboration with project managers. A bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (ABET preferred) and internship experience are highly valued; EIT is a plus, with full-time permanent

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Civil Engineering degree preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Authorized to work permanently in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the civil design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assists in designing civil components per project manager requirements.
• Applies basic civil engineering concepts within the industry.
• Assists with data collection and project studies and reports.
• Assists with updating drawings using CAD software.
• Supports client presentations and contract administration for diverse facilities.
• Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
