Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to join the Environmental Services Global Practice in the Mid-Atlantic region. The role supports civil and environmental design on projects including high-voltage routing, natural gas, renewables, water treatment, and more.

The position offers exposure to site civil design, hydraulic analyses, stormwater, regulatory compliance, and construction documentation.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program.
Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of civil engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment.

Responsibilities

Assist engineering teams to deliver well-coordinated, high-quality designs for civil or environmental projects.
Assist with coordinating, executing, and monitoring multidisciplinary projects of varying complexity.
Prepare documentation for design projects: criteria, letters, memos, reports, drawings, cost estimates.
Assist with researching and compiling project data as required by managers.
Update drawings with senior engineers to reflect corrections across CAD software.
Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
Establish client relations and participate in meetings with marketing, management, and design teams.
Follow QA/QC procedures and contribute to internal training.
