Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise flight instructor staff and students to ensure standardized instruction and safety.
• Promote and maintain the highest safety levels for the AU flight training operation.
• Assist with planning student progress, equipment acquisition, curriculum development, and program strategies.
• Maintain pilot school documentation and records per FAA, Veterans Affairs and Auburn policy.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Coordinate with airport staff on safety and operational issues affecting the pilot school.
• Evaluate flight students for stage checks and End of Course rides.
• Schedule instructors and students and verify lessons.
• Advise students, instructors and staff as needed.
• Handle after-hours safety incidents and related issues.

Overview

The School of Aviation is seeking candidates for Assistant Chief Flight Instructor I/II . Reporting to theChief Flight Instructor, this position assists in theadministration and oversight of the flight operations and flightcourse portions of the Professional Flight degree program offeredthrough the College of Liberal Arts, School of Aviation. Working in Professional Flight is dynamic and employees have accessto well-maintained, current, and plentiful resources. Our trainingfleet of airplanes and simulation devices offer the lateststate-of-the-art technology and features. Our building facilitieshave been recently constructed and offer well-furnished andequipped offices and classrooms. Responsibilities

• Assists in the effective leadership and supervision of flightinstructor staff, assigned staff, and flight students to achievestandardized instructions and uniform adherence to establishededucational goals.
• Assists with promoting and maintaining the highest level ofsafety possible for the AU flight training operation.
• Assists, as directed, with operational planning related tostudent progress, equipment acquisition, curriculum development andprogram strategies.
• Assists in maintaining pilot school documentation and academicrecords in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration,Veterans Administration and Auburn University policy anddirectives.
• Assists in maintaining full compliance with all associatedfederal, state, and local regulations.
• Assists, as directed, with meeting all applicable FederalAviation Administration policies and regulations pertaining to AU'sFAA-approved Part 141 Pilot School certification and examiningauthority approvals.
• Coordinates, as directed, with airport maintenance andoperations staff on safety and operational issues affecting thepilot school and its students and flight instructors.
• Evaluates flight students for stage checks and End of Course(EOC) check rides.
• Schedules instructors and students which includes verifyinglessons.
• Advises students, instructors and staff as needed.
• Handles various issues after normal business hours (safetyincidents, etc.).

Supervisory Responsibility

Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion or other employment decisions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School diploma with prior equivalent job experience and mustmeet the applicable requirements outlined in FAA 14 CFR, Part141.36.

Years of Experience / Focus of Experience

• Have at least 500 hours as pilot in command;
• Have flight training experience acquired as either acertificated flight instructor or an instructor in a military pilotflight training program, or a combination thereof, consisting of atleast 1 year and a total of 250 flight hours; or 500 flighthours.
• Have at least 50 hours of flight time under actual or simulatedinstrument conditions;
• Have instrument flight instructor experience acquired as eithera certificated flight instructor- instrument or an instructor in amilitary pilot flight training program, or a combination thereof,consisting of at least 1 year and a total of 125 flight hours; or200 flight hours.

Level II:

Education Level

Bachelor's degree

Management, Aviation, or related field preferred. For positions that require the teaching, a Master’s degree will berequired and must meet the applicable requirements outlined in FAA14 CFR, Part 141.36.
