Job summary

Auburn University is seeking an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor I/II to lead flight instructor staff and oversee flight operations for the Professional Flight degree program. Reporting to the Chief Flight Instructor, you will safeguard safety, coordinate planning, and maintain regulatory compliance.

The role requires FAA pilot and instructor certifications, pilot-in-command experience, and proper medical clearance.

Qualifications

  • FAA Commercial Pilot certification with airplane single-engine and instrument-airplane ratings.
  • FAA Flight Instructor certification with airplane single-engine and instrument-airplane ratings.
  • FAA 3rd Class medical certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise flight instructor staff and students to ensure standardized instruction and safety.
  • Promote and maintain the highest safety levels for the AU flight training operation.
  • Assist with planning student progress, equipment acquisition, curriculum development, and program strategies.
  • Maintain pilot school documentation and records per FAA, Veterans Affairs and Auburn policy.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with airport staff on safety and operational issues affecting the pilot school.
  • Evaluate flight students for stage checks and End of Course rides.
  • Schedule instructors and students and verify lessons.
  • Advise students, instructors and staff as needed.
  • Handle after-hours safety incidents and related issues.
