Job summary

Akua Behavioral Health seeks an Assistant Captain to oversee staff schedules, provide on-call leadership, and ensure safety and continuity of care across programs in California.

The role combines hands-on clinical coverage with operational oversight, including performance coaching, timesheet compliance, and inventory management. Exempt, full-time compensation supports a 4:00pm–12:30am shift.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of behavioral healthcare experience and lead technician experience.
• Valid CA Driver's License.
• Health screen/physical and TB test clearance.

Responsibilities

• Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment, coverage, prioritization, and real-time operational decisions.
• Participate in the on-call rotation with other salaried leaders.
• Step into Clinical Technician duties to protect client safety and program continuity (rounds, medication observation support, detox support, intake/discharge, groups, milieu, transportation).
• Conduct documented bi-weekly CMA (Coaching, Motivation, and Accountability) 1:1s and provide recommendations on evaluations, discipline, and employment status.
• Review timesheets and ensure meal and rest breaks comply with California law and company policy.
• Manage program supplies and inventory; perform chart audits; support employee-file and training compliance for direct reports.
• Communicate incidents, high-acuity concerns, and staffing risks to the Program Director (and VP or Clinical Director as appropriate).
