Job summary

Akua Behavioral Health is seeking an Assistant Captain to lead evening operations and oversee PM and NOC Clinical Technicians. This salaried role includes on-call duties, hands-on coverage, and ensures program continuity with a focus on patient safety and adherence to policy.

You will conduct regular 1:1s, manage staff scheduling, and monitor compliance with California hours and breaks. A positive, accountable leader with clinical insight is essential for success.

Qualifications

• License/Credentials: RADT, SUDRC, or RAC (required)
• Education: High School Diploma / GED or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
• Experience: 3+ years of behavioral healthcare and lead technician experience (preferred)
• Additional: Valid CA Driver's License (required); Current Health Screen / Physical (required); TB Test Clearance (required)

Responsibilities

• Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment and coverage.
• Participate in on-call rotation with other salaried leaders.
• Step into Clinical Technician duties to protect client safety and program continuity.
• Conduct documented bi-weekly CMA 1:1s and provide recommendations on evaluations.
• Review timesheets to ensure meal and rest breaks compliance with CA law.
• Manage program supplies and inventory; support training compliance for direct reports.
• Communicate incidents and staffing risks to the Program Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Staff Management: Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment, coverage, prioritization, and real-time operational decisions.
• On-Call Leadership: Participate in the on-call rotation with other salaried leaders.
• Hands-On Coverage: Step into Clinical Technician duties to protect client safety and program continuity (rounds, medication observation support, detox support, intake/discharge, groups, milieu, transportation).
• Performance Management: Conduct documented bi-weekly CMA (Coaching, Motivation, and Accountability) 1:1s and provide recommendations on evaluations, discipline, and employment status.
• Break Compliance: Review timesheets and ensure meal and rest breaks comply with California law and company policy.
• Operations: Manage program supplies and inventory; perform chart audits; support employee-file and training compliance for direct reports.
• Escalation: Communicate incidents, high-acuity concerns, and staffing risks to the Program Director (and VP or Clinical Director as appropriate).
