Job summary

Akua Behavioral Health Inc. is hiring an Assistant Captain in California to oversee PM and NOC clinical technicians, lead on-call rotations, and provide hands-on coverage to ensure client safety and continuity of care.

The role emphasizes staff management, operational decision-making, and adherence to labor laws. The position is a salaried, full-time, exempt role with a competitive $75,000–$80,000 yearly compensation, plus benefits including health insurance, PTO, and equity shares.

Qualifications

• License/Credentials: RADT, SUDRC, or RAC required
• Education: High School Diploma / GED or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
• Experience: 3+ years of behavioral healthcare and lead technician experience (preferred)
• Additional: Valid CA Driver's License (required), Health Screen / Physical (required), TB Test Clearance (required)

Responsibilities

• Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment, coverage, prioritization, and real-time operational decisions.
• Participate in the on-call rotation with other salaried leaders.
• Step into Clinical Technician duties to protect client safety and program continuity (rounds, medication observation support, detox support, intake/discharge, groups, milieu, transportation).
• Conduct documented bi-weekly CMA (Coaching, Motivation, and Accountability) 1:1s and provide recommendations on evaluations, discipline, and employment status.
• Review timesheets and ensure meal and rest breaks comply with California law and company policy.
• Manage program supplies and inventory; perform chart audits; support employee-file and training compliance for direct reports.
• Communicate incidents, high-acuity concerns, and staffing risks to the Program Director (and VP or Clinical Director as appropriate).

Key Responsibilities:

• Staff Management: Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment, coverage, prioritization, and real-time operational decisions.
