Job summary

Akua Behavioral Health is seeking an Assistant Captain in California to oversee clinical technicians, manage on-call leadership duties, and ensure program continuity while safeguarding client safety. The role requires experience in behavioral healthcare and a valid CA driver's license.

This salaried, exempt position includes leadership responsibilities, performance coaching, and compliance with California labor rules.

Qualifications

• RADT, SUDRC, or RAC license required.
• High School Diploma / GED or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years of behavioral healthcare and lead technician experience.
• Valid CA driver’s license required.
• Current health screen / physical and TB clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Direct the work of PM and NOC Clinical Technicians, including duty assignment, coverage, prioritization, and real-time operational decisions.
• Participate in the on-call rotation with other salaried leaders.
• Step into Clinical Technician duties to protect client safety and program continuity (rounds, medication observation support, detox support, intake/discharge, groups, milieu, transportation).
• Conduct documented bi-weekly CMA (Coaching, Motivation, and Accountability) 1:1s and provide recommendations on evaluations, discipline, and employment status.
• Review timesheets and ensure meal and rest breaks comply with California law and company policy.
• Manage program supplies and inventory; perform chart audits; support employee-file and training compliance for direct reports.
• Communicate incidents, high-acuity concerns, and staffing risks to the Program Director (and VP or Clinical Director as appropriate).

Key Responsibilities
