Job summary

Job Summary/Basic Function

Wheaton College, an NCAA Division III institution located in Norton, Massachusetts, is looking for a motivated, energetic, passionate and caring individual to assist our baseball program. The Assistant Coach helps prepare the team for a full intercollegiate varsity season, including in-season practices, scouting and meet preparation. Also, this person will play an active role in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes. A commitment to teaching and working within an environment that embraces the holistic development of the student-athlete is essential. Additionally, this person will serve in an administrative capacity as directed by the Athletic Administration. It is expected that this individual will complete their job while complying with all NCAA Division III, NEWMAC and Wheaton College rules and regulations.

  • Teach and develop student-athlete’s skills, conditioning and sport knowledge. Oversee student-athlete’s academic progress and be available for consultation and support for overall student-athlete well-being.
  • Assist the head coach in developing and executing a recruiting plan for prospective student-athletes. Communicate and build connections with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Serve in an administrative capacity as needed, including but not limited to game management and a secondary duty.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Individuals must possess the skills and abilities or be able to teach and demonstrate all aspects of the sport they are coaching.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Bachelor’s Degree required and 1-3 years of collegiate playing and/or coaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • 1-3 years of collegiate coaching experience

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $35K ( for 10 months, academic year). The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
