Position Overview
We are seeking experienced, self-starting, creative, and service-oriented individuals to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead in daily management and treatment of our student-athletes’ medical needs.
Major Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
Job Responsibilities Include
- Work under the supervision of the Director of Athletic Training and be responsible for the following: prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, providing education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness.
- Oversee the CPR/AED and First Aid education for all Athletic Staff.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.
- Participates in inventory management of supplies.
- Documents and maintains student-athlete PHI (i.e. physicals, injury reports, rehabilitation, etc.) into the SportsWare Online system.
- Maintains appropriate communication with the Director of Athletic Training, athletic director, student-athletes, coaches, and physicians.
- Maintains appropriate communication and attends meetings within the Department of Athletics.
- Obtains, creates and maintains an athletic calendar of events.
- Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.
- Completes required CEU’s for NATA and Arizona Licensure.
- Remain in good standing with the NATA and Arizona Athletic Trainer’s Licensure.
- Develops, communicates and enforces Nelson University-AIC Policy & Procedures for athletes.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for usage of university vans and the ability to travel for team practices and competition.
- Other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements
- Travels with both male and female teams (very rarely but may be asked to occasionally).
Physical Requirements
- Work is medium demand. Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects.
- Medium strength is required to position patients for examination.
- May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the exam table.
Qualifications
Required Education and Qualifications
- Faith, service and lifestyle that meets University expectations (See IPM sections: "Statement of Core Values," "Doctrinal Statement," "Christian Standards," "Lifestyle Standard.")
- Bachelor degree in exercise physiology/health education, sports medicine or a related field preferred.
- BOC Certification for Athletic Training.
- Arizona Athletic Training License.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
