Job description

Position Summary

Reports to the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine. Supervise and coordinate athletic training services for student‑athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs for the Campbell University athletic department, working under the medical directions of team physicians and in conjunction with referring physicians, other ancillary medical professionals, and Campbell University staff (athletic training, athletics administration, sport coaching, academics, strength and conditioning, counseling services). Must adhere to NCAA and CAA, Southern Conference, and CCSA institutional rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prevent and treat athletic‑related injuries; maintain an effective preventive care program for the University’s athletic teams.
  • Coordinate all physical examinations for student‑athletes prior to the start of their sports season and be aware of any chronic medical conditions or special needs.
  • Implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for injured student‑athletes and communicate progress to head coaches.
  • Supervise the efficient operation of athletic training rooms, develop procedures and schedules, and maintain accurate records and injury report forms in the electronic medical database.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and equipment, coordinate furniture and clothing orders, and ensure all inventory is accurately reflected.
  • Prepare and process insurance claims in a timely manner, including maintaining accurate insurance files and communicating with insurance coordinators or representatives.
  • Coordinate transportation and necessary referrals to Campbell University Team Physicians and other medical personnel as needed.
  • Coordinate emergency services for athletic events, ensuring the presence of EMT personnel when appropriate, and communicate required services to visiting athletic trainers.
  • Prepare bench services, locker room amenities, and required supplies for visiting teams.
  • Travel for in‑season away contests and, when possible, out‑of‑season away contests as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletic Training or Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures within the Department of Athletics and complete any administrative duties assigned by the Director of Athletic Training or Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Prepare hardship petitions in accordance with NCAA and CAA guidelines for qualified student‑athletes.
  • Participate in the selection of assistant athletic trainers.
Academic Responsibilities
  • May undertake adjunct teaching responsibilities as requested by department chairs, provided it does not interfere with athletic training duties.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies including Title IX, Information Security, HIPAA, FERPA, and other state and federal mandates.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Other duties may change or be assigned at any time, with or without notice.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or entry‑level Master’s degree from a CAATE‑accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field desired.
  • NATA BOC certification.
  • North Carolina State Athletic Training licensure or eligibility.
  • 2+ years of collegiate or professional athletic training experience desired.

  • Communicate effectively with all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with university staff and athletes.
  • Work independently and within a diverse team.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holiday breaks as necessary.
  • Availability to travel with overnight stays required.
