Reports To: Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Success Services Director of Academic Services (dotted line to Senior Associate Athletic Director - Compliance)
The Assistant Athletic Academic Advisor / Compliance Coordinator is responsible for supporting the academic success and eligibility of assigned student-athletes while providing administrative support to the Athletics Compliance Office. This position will manage 1–2 assigned teams and assist in monitoring academic progress, NCAA eligibility, and day-to-day compliance operations.
Academic Services (Primary Function)
- Serve as the primary academic advisor for 2-4 assigned athletic teams.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress toward degree and NCAA eligibility requirements.
- Conduct weekly one-on-one academic meetings with student-athletes to promote time management, effective study strategies, academic progress, and a successful transition to and overall success at Manhattan University.
- Coordinate academic support services, including tutoring, study hall, and learning resources.
- Communicate regularly with coaches regarding student-athletes' academic progress, performance, and any academic concerns while fostering collaboration to support student success.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date academic records and reports.
- Prepare and provide weekly academic updates and progress reports to coaches and athletics staff to support student-athlete success and informed decision-making
- Assist with initial and continuing eligibility certification in collaboration with compliance staff.
- Support programming related to academic success, retention, and graduation initiatives.
Compliance Support (Secondary Function)
- Provide administrative support to the Athletics Compliance Office.
- Assist with data entry and maintenance of compliance systems (e.g., recruiting logs, CARA, eligibility tracking).
- Help organize and track required NCAA documentation (e.g., forms, logs, waivers).
- Support monitoring of recruiting activities, official/unofficial visits, and playing/practice seasons.
- Assist with educational materials and rules education initiatives for coaches and student-athletes.
- Maintain organized records to ensure readiness for audits and reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in higher education, sports administration, or related field preferred.
- Experience in academic advising, student services, or athletics administration preferred.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn compliance/academic software systems.
