Job summary

Methodist Home for Children (MHC) is hiring an Assessment Center Specialist to join the Juvenile Crisis & Assessment Center in Asheville, NC. This role involves coordinating referrals from consumers and court services while conducting assessments and interviews to support youth ages 10 to 17.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and relevant experience in human services, demonstrating strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in the human services field.
• Be at least 21 years old.
• Experience working with youth ages 11–17 is a plus.

Starting Salary Range: $44,000 - 48,000, based on experience and education

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Operated by Methodist Home for Children (MHC) in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, our Juvenile Crisis & Assessment Center provides comprehensive residential assessments designed to match youth with the most appropriate services in their communities. The center serves Level II offenders between the ages of 10 and 17, helping them take meaningful steps toward stability and success.

We are seeking an organized, compassionate, and detail-oriented Assessment Center Specialist to join our Asheville team. This is a great opportunity for college graduates with backgrounds in human services, psychology, criminal justice, social work, or administration who want to make a meaningful impact while building professional experience.

WhatWillYouDo?

• Receiving and coordinating referrals from consumers and court services


• Assessing referrals for appropriateness and gathering required information


• Serving as the primary liaison for families and court services during the admission process


• Conducting intake interviews and completing assessment documentation


• Managing data tracking, record retrieval, and information sharing


• Coordinating discharge planning and follow-up communication


• Supporting overall administrative and assessment-related processes within the center

AreYouQualified?

• Be at least 21 years old


• Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in the human services field


• Demonstrate strong organizational, writing, editing, and computer skills


• Have the ability to communicate effectively with families, court personnel, and service providers


• Hold a valid driver’s license


• Successfully complete required screenings, trainings, and an unarmed self-defense course required for all facility staff

Experience working with youth ages 11–17 is a plus.
