Job summary

Dollar General seeks a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in daily operations, supervision, inventory control, stocking, and store needs. This role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position for a limited period.

The position emphasizes merchandising, loss prevention, cash handling, and staff development within a fast-paced environment. Travel to nearby stores may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams and safety rules.
• Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to supervise staff and manage time and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising, staging, stocking and pricing of merchandise.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and prepare inventories.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide customer service leadership.
• Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure the safe deposit of all company funds and maintain cash controls.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, well-stocked store and a safe environment.
• Operate store in the store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends, expenses and opportunities.
