Job summary
The Shelly Company, a CRH company, is a vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mix concrete and paving services across Ohio. The Quality Control Technician tests aggregate and asphalt mixes to verify composition and consistency, monitors pavement quality during installation, and assists in adjusting mix to specifications.
The role may involve night work and overtime with duties performed under limited supervision; strong data entry and computer skills are required,
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equal skill level.
- Ability to carry out standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards.
- Knowledge of basic operating procedures and mechanics of asphalt plant.
- Ability to obtain Level 2 and/or 3 ODOT Testing Certifications.
Responsibilities
- Test materials to determine weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components.
- Monitor the quality of hot mix asphalt pavement.
- Input test results into computers in laboratories and remote locations.
- Communicate test results and specifications to paving personnel and other technicians.
- Calibrate and use a density meter.
- Assist in adjusting mix composition to meet specifications.
