Job summary

Montefiore Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for the Patient Satisfaction department. This role supports patients, families and companions with limited English proficiency, interpreting for physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers to ensure clear communication and quality care.

The interpreter will oversee the Language Assistance Program, manage interpretation devices, educate staff, and help ensure satisfaction across languages.

Qualifications

• High School required.
• Bachelor degree preferred.
• 1–3 years work experience as an ASL interpreter preferred.
• ASL certification required.

Responsibilities

• Interprets spoken language for patients, families and companions.
• Acts as liaison between patient/family/companions and organization.
• Participates in departmental QA process related to interpreter services and customer satisfaction.
• Assist with Propio device management.
• Round on patients with a language preference other than English.
• Audit charts for Propio compliance and staff education.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Patient Experience.

Job Summary

This certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for the hearing impaired is responsible assisting patients, families and companions with limited English proficiency interpreting when they are communicating with the Physician, nurses or any other healthcare provider. Assists in overseeing the Language Assistance Program, including interpretation and translation device management, staff education and ensuring patients and families with varying preferred languages are satisfied with the care and communication being provided.

Essential Functions

• 1. Interprets (spoken language) for patients, families and companions.
• 1. Acts as a liaison between patient / family / companions and organization by interpreting, explaining and navigating the organization’s policies and procedures.
• 1. Participates in departmental QI process as it relates to the provision of interpreter services, special needs and customer satisfaction.
• 1. Assist with Propio device management.
• 1. Round on all patients with a preferred language other than English.
• 1. Audit charts for Propio compliance and provide staff education.
• 1. Performs additional duties as related and assigned by Director of Patient Experience.
