Job summary

Montefiore Nyack Hospital in Nyack, NY is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to support patients, families and companions with limited English proficiency during interactions with physicians and nurses. The role oversees the Language Assistance Program, manages interpretation devices, educates staff and ensures language access across care areas.

The position requires ASL certification, a HS diploma, and 1–3 years’ interpreter experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 1-3 years experience as ASL interpreter preferred.
• ASL certification required.

Responsibilities

• Interprets spoken language for patients, families and companions.
• Acts as liaison between patient/family and organization.
• Participates in QI processes for interpreter services and patient satisfaction.
• Assist with Propio device management.
• Round on patients with a preferred language other than English.
• Audit charts for Propio compliance and staff education.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by Director of Patient Experience.
