Job summary

Montefiore Nyack Hospital is seeking a certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to assist patients, families, and companions with limited English proficiency. You will interpret for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers and help manage the Language Assistance Program.

Responsibilities include interpreting, coordinating language access services, Propio device management, and staff education to ensure clear communication and patient satisfaction across languages.

Qualifications

• High School Required
• Bachelor Degree Preferred
• 1-3 years Work experience as an ASL Interpreter Preferred
• ASL certification Required

Responsibilities

• Interprets spoken language for patients and families.
• Liaises between patients, families and staff via interpretation.
• Participates in quality improvement for interpreter services.
• Assist with Propio device management.
• Rounds on patients with a non-English language.
• Audits Propio charts and provides staff education.
• Performs other duties per Director of Patient Experience.
