Job summary

Avamere at Chestnut Lane in Gresham, OR seeks an ASL Staff Interpreter to support Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf Blind residents. You will provide advanced ASL and tactile interpreting, narrate environments, and help with daily activities to promote independence and participation.

The role requires RID/BEI Certification and 2–3 years’ experience in healthcare or senior living, with CPR/BLS active. You will collaborate with nurses and caregivers to ensure inclusive communication and care.

Qualifications

• Current RID or BEI certification required.
• Advanced capability in Deaf Blind communication modes including tactile ASL and Pro‑Tactile.
• Minimum 2–3 years interpreting experience; senior living/healthcare/deaf-blind support preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with seniors and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL/English/tactile interpretation to residents, staff, and medical personnel.
• Narrate visuals and environment for Deaf Blind residents to support independence.
• Translate care plans and documents into accessible sign formats for residents.
• Coordinate with care staff, interpreters, and medical professionals to ensure consistent communication.
• Assist with ADLs, mobility, and participation in activities and events.
• Advocate for residents’ rights to equal access under ADA and HIPAA guidelines.
