Job summary

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection seeks seven Assistant Mechanical Engineers to serve as Technical Reviewers in the ACP Technical Review Unit. You will review asbestos project notifications, amendments, and safety plans, evaluate drawings, and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with NYC and NYS asbestos regulations.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree in mechanical/ aerospace/ mechatronics with required experience.
Alternative with engineering technology degree and relevant experience.
Combined bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

Responsibilities

Review asbestos project notifications, amendments, variance applications and safety plans.
Evaluate design and construction drawings for compliance with NYS/ NYC regulations.
Perform inspections, prepare detailed reports and collect samples.
Interpret lab results and may issue notices of violation or testimony at hearings.
Serve as emergency responder for asbestos incidents and coordinate remediation guidance.
