Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection is seeking seven Assistant Mechanical Engineers to perform Technical Reviewer duties in the ACP Technical Review Unit. This role focuses on reviewing asbestos-related project notifications and supporting inspections and compliance with NYC asbestos regulations.

Under TRU leadership, duties include preparing reports, reviewing drawings, and participating in emergency response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or mechatronics with 1 year of mechanical engineering experience; or
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology with 3 years of experience; or
• Bachelor’s degree plus a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

Responsibilities

• Review asbestos project notifications, amendments, variance applications and related plans.
• Conduct pre-abatement and active asbestos abatement inspections.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, collect dimensions, diagrams and photos.
• Provide testimony at Environmental Control Board hearings and assist in emergencies.
