Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks seven Assistant Mechanical Engineers to serve as Technical Reviewers in the ACP Technical Review Unit. You will review asbestos project notifications, amendments, and related drawings, and perform inspections to ensure compliance with NYS and NYC regulations.

Under supervision, you will prepare reports, interpret lab results, and assist in emergency response during asbestos incidents. NYC residency not required; 55-a program may apply.

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechatronics and one year of full-time mechanical engineering experience.
  • A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering technology with three years of experience.
  • Baccalaureate degree plus a master's in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

  • Review asbestos project notifications, amendments, and variance applications.
  • Perform inspections and evaluate design and construction drawings for compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain documentation.
