Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Environmental Compliance seeks seven (8) Assistant Mechanical Engineers to perform Technical Reviewer duties in the ACP Technical Review Unit. Reviews will cover asbestos removal, inspections, and compliance with NYC/State regulations, amid housing and development activity.

Responsibilities include detailed reviews, reports, testing coordination, and potential testimony; and emergency response during asbestos incidents in the city, with

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree in mechanical/ aerospace/ mechatronics with 1 year of related experience.
• A baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering technology with 3 years of related experience.
• A baccalaureate degree plus a master's in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve asbestos project notifications, amendments, and variance applications.
• Conduct pre-abatement and active asbestos inspections and related evaluations.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, collect samples, and document findings.
• Provide testimony at Environmental Control Board hearings and trials.
• Serve as an emergency responder during asbestos incidents and coordinate field tasks.
