Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Industrial Hygienist for the Asbestos Control Program, based at its Queens headquarters. You will conduct safety and health investigations to ensure compliance with Asbestos Rules and Regulations, and support enforcement actions.

Responsibilities include preparing inspection reports, collecting samples, interpreting lab results, issuing notices of violations, and providing testimony at hearings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree requirements include 28 credits in IH, EHS, OHS, or safety engineering.
• Alternatively, 28 credits in physical or natural sciences or engineering plus related experience.
• Two years of satisfactory full-time work experience may substitute under policy.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety and health investigations to ensure compliance with Asbestos Rules and Regulations.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports, obtain site dimensions, diagrams and photographs; collect asbestos samples.
• Interpret lab reports, review air sampling results, issue notices of violations, and provide testimony at Environmental Control Board hearings.
