Job summary

Akima Global Security seeks an Armed Detention Officer to support operations at our detention facility in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. This on-site, contract-based role involves detainee handling, security, transport, and adherence to policy.

The position requires experience in detention or security, U.S. residency, and DHS/ICE clearance. A high school diploma, valid PR driver’s license, and firearm license are expected along with fitness standards and background checks.

Qualifications

• Detention Officers shall have at least 1 year of experience as a law enforcement or security professional, or 2 years of college in a related field.
• US citizen or a person lawfully admitted to the U.S. with residence in the U.S. for 5 years.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Pass criminal background and credit checks; no criminal record.
• Obtain and maintain DHS/ICE government clearance.
• Pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
• Medical examination and health requirements.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Valid state driver's license and Firearms license (PR regulations).
• Residence in PR.
• Maintain physical fitness standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs detention, processing, safeguarding, security, escort and transport of detainees.
• Maintains order and discipline; enforces facility rules.
• Cares for detainees; uses restraints and security measures as required.
• Guards detainees during hearings, transport and medical care.
• Operate and inspect equipment; requalify weapons quarterly.
• Record entries in transportation and processing logbooks.
• Conduct security checks and vehicle inspections; inventory equipment.
• Ensure radios are functional and charged; assist at multiple facilities as needed.
• Support housing, feeding, and wellbeing of detainees 24/7.
• Follow safety policies and complete training.
