Job summary

Akima is seeking an Armed Detention Officer to safeguard detainees and the public at government facilities on-site. The role requires firearms handling, security licensing, and adherence to DHS/ICE standards.

You must pass background checks, drug tests, and maintain peak fitness while performing duties in a custodial or court setting. The position emphasizes training, logbook accuracy, equipment maintenance, and strict safety practices throughout the contract term.

Qualifications

• US citizen or lawful permanent resident with five years in the US.
• Pass a criminal background and consumer credit check.
• Obtain DHS/ICE government clearance.
• Pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
• Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Possess an armed state security guard license (MN or NE).
• One year of Military/Security/Corrections experience.

Responsibilities

• Guard and safeguard detainees and the public at government buildings.
• Qualify on a course of fire twice yearly, up to four times if required.
• Complete training, maintain fitness, and meet contract requirements.
• Escort detainees and control the detainee area per contract.
• Record logbook entries legibly and completely.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and ensure communications radio works.
• Carry and use authorized intermediate weapons according to policy.
• Complete training including defensive tactics and physical stamina.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures.
