Job summary

County of Thurston is seeking a Court Security Officer to provide armed protection for court facilities in Olympia, WA. Responsibilities include screening, access control, and responding to alarms while maintaining safety for judges, staff, and the public.

Qualifications include at least two years of law enforcement or corrections experience, completion of WA state training, and handgun qualification. The role requires English proficiency, a HS diploma or GED, and a valid WA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
• Must meet Civil Service pre-employment screening standards.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license required.
• Two years of law enforcement or corrections experience.
• Graduate from a Washington State Basic or Reserve Academy or equivalent training; or federal law enforcement experience.
• Possession/qualification in handgun use with annual re-qualification.

Responsibilities

• Operate screening monitors, mag detectors, x-ray scanners, and handheld wands.
• Conduct hand searches of items to detect dangerous objects.
• Secure and process weapons when necessary.
• Monitor courtrooms and facilities via CCTV.
• Control and limit public access to reduce security risk.
• Respond to alarms and assist with evacuations.
• Provide information and directions to the public.
