Thurston County is seeking a Court Security Officer to provide armed protection for court facilities in Olympia. The role includes conducting security screenings, maintaining order, and responding to emergencies.

Candidates must meet civil service pre-employment standards and pass required examinations. Qualifications include age 21+, high school diploma or GED, law enforcement or corrections background, and firearm qualification.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• English language ability required per pre-employment screening.
• Two years’ law enforcement or corrections experience.
• Graduate from WA State LEA or federal equivalent, or comparable training.

Responsibilities

• Operate screening monitors, magnetometers, x-ray scanners, and hand wands.
• Conduct hand searches of personal items for dangerous objects.
• Secure and process weapons when needed.
• Monitor courtrooms and facilities via CCTV.
• Control public access to reduce risk and ensure safety.
• Respond to alarms and assist with evacuations.
• Provide information, direction, and assistance to the public.
