Job summary

Jobtailor in Illinois seeks a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily over-the-road operations, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity across shifts. You will coach drivers and dispatchers, enforce 5S and housekeeping standards, and align staffing with real-time needs to hit targets.

The role requires strong leadership, timekeeping oversight, and the ability to drive performance improvements while maintaining compliance with CDL hours and FMCSA regulations across the team.

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading a team of over-the-road drivers and dispatching, routing and scheduling of freight.
• 2+ years of experience as an OTR driver.
• Working knowledge of Samsara products.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power BI).
• Experience in CDL hours of service and FMCSA regulations.
• Ability to initiate and uphold safety policies, practices and housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily transportation activities to meet safety, quality, scrap, and productivity goals.
• Model and reinforce safety, policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
• Drive consistent application of safety, quality, cost, and 5S standards.
• Foster accountability, inclusion, teamwork, and mutual respect.
• Monitor performance trends, identify patterns, and recommend improvements.
• Make real-time adjustments to staffing, processes, or priorities.
• Demonstrate proficiency across department positions and support operational challenges.
• Ensure accurate timekeeping and attendance records.
• Support the Supervisor in coaching and developing teammates.
• Communicate daily and weekly objectives, performance expectations, and priorities.
• Conduct performance conversations and contribute to development planning.
• Document coaching and counseling.
• Contribute to hiring, promotion, and discipline decisions.
• Develop knowledge of leadership, goal-setting, performance management, and cross-functional coordination.
