Job summary

UIC Arctic Response Services, LLC is seeking a Roving Service Barrel Technician to support local water and sewer operations in Arctic conditions. The role operates on a 3‑4 weeks on / 2‑3 weeks off rotation with housing and a per diem provided, traveling from Anchorage or Fairbanks.

The technician will maintain and repair residential service barrels and exterior plumbing, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with SOP updates under supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Provisional or Level 1-2 ADEC Water Certification required.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and background check.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in Arctic conditions.
  • Willingness to work a rotational schedule with extended hours as needed.
  • Preferred: CDL.
  • Preferred: One year or more of related maintenance/utility experience.
  • Preferred: Previous Arctic or remote work experience.
  • Preferred: Higher-level ADEC Water/Wastewater certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, adjust, and repair service connection barrels and exterior carrier piping year-round in Arctic conditions.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as completing work orders and managing inventory.
  • Pre-assemble water service barrel manifolds and replace flow switches and water circulation components.
  • Inventory and submit purchase order requests for water and sewer parts and materials.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on treatment plants, including mechanical and electrical components of wastewater systems.
  • Review, create, and update SOPs for water and sewer service connections.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
