Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement in Northbrook, IL, seeks an Archivist to manage archival processing, accessioning, and description of collections, both analog and digital.

Responsibilities include supporting the digital repository, conducting oral histories, and leading tours. You will collaborate with teams across communications and outreach to share the organization’s rich history.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS with archives concentration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 2 years of archival processing experience.
• Experience with archival collection management software and standards.
• Experience with digital preservation platforms preferred.
• Archivist certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Appraise, accession, arrange and describe archival collections according to best practices and standards.
• Support digital archival repository with digitized and born-digital records for long-term preservation.
• Collaborate with communications, public relations, and other teams on archival projects.
• Collaboratively assess processing backlog and prioritize work.
• Assess storage space and reorganize materials for optimal use.
• Respond to reference questions from internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct oral histories with long‑standing staff and promote donations.
• Lead tours of the archives for employees and external audiences.
