Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in Northbrook, Illinois, is hiring an Archivist to preserve and activate the organizations’ rich history. The role involves archival processing, collection management, reference, research and outreach, drawing on best practices to manage both physical and digital records.

You will collaborate across teams on projects involving the archives and help maintain the digital repository for long-term access.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and information science or history/public history with archival experience.
• Minimum 2 years of archival processing experience.
• Experience with archival collection management software and digital preservation tools.

Responsibilities

• Appraise, accession, arrange and describe archival collections in analog and digital formats per standards.
• Support development of the digital archival repository with digitized and born-digital records.
• Collaborate with teams on communications, outreach and engagement involving the archives.
• Prioritize archival processing backlog and assess storage space.
• Conduct reference inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Record oral histories and promote donations of papers and materials.
