Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement is seeking an Archivist in Northbrook, IL to preserve and activate their rich 132-year history. You will process and manage archival materials, support a digital repository, and collaborate on communications that use the organization’s history for public outreach.

The role requires MLS/MLIS with emphasis on archives, at least 2 years of archival processing, and familiarity with ArchivEra, ArchiveSpace, Preservica, and Microsoft 365 products.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with archival processing, appraisal, accessioning, arrangement and description according to standards.
• Familiarity with national/international archival description standards (DACS/ISAD-G) and best practices.
• Experience promoting archives via social media to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and in small teams; strong project management.
• Commitment to learning the organization’s mission and history.

Responsibilities

• Appraise, accession, arrange, and describe archival collections in all formats.
• Support digital repository with digitized and born-digital records for preservation and access.
• Collaborate on communications, public relations, and community engagement projects.
• Assess backlog and space for archival processing improvements.
• Respond to reference questions from internal and external stakeholders.
