Job summary

Bath Area Family YMCA in Bath, ME is seeking an Aquatics Director to lead and grow our aquatic programs, ensuring safety and high-quality member experiences.

The role directs staff, coordinates lifeguard and swim training, manages budgets, and builds partnerships with community organizations while upholding YMCA values and safety standards.

Exempt position reporting to COO; requires Bachelor’s degree, Lifeguard/First Aid CPR, and YMCA certifications; salary $55,000–$61,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
• One to two years related experience preferred; e.g., aquatics coordinator or supervisor.
• Minimum age of 21.
• Current Lifeguard and First-Aid/CPR certifications; YMCA swim lesson certification preferred or within 90 days.
• Completion of YMCA program-specific trainer certifications: swim lessons, lifeguard, CPR/ First Aid.
• CPO certification preferred or obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises program activities to meet community needs and YMCA objectives.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and directs personnel and volunteers; reviews staff performance.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
• Monitors staff certifications and maintains records.
• Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
• Creates and schedules swim and water fitness classes and meets.
• Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
• Develops budgets and forecasts within the calendar year.
