Job summary

The YMCA seeks an Aquatics Director to lead aquatics programming at the Family Center, driving member engagement and retention through innovative swim programs and outstanding service.

You will recruit and supervise staff, ensure safety compliance, and collaborate with Safe Start, facilities and leadership to coordinate schedules, inspections, budgets and events. A strong background in recreation management and appropriate certifications is required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent; Recreation Management background preferred.
• 1–3 years of aquatics program management experience.
• 1–3 years of staff supervision experience.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Current Oxygen Administration certification.
• Current Lifeguard certification plus YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification; YMCA Lifeguard preferred.
• YMCA Pool Operator certification preferred.
• Experience with diverse populations and ability to build authentic relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead aquatics programs including lap swimming, swim lessons, group classes, and recreation teams.
• Ensure high-quality programming through evaluations and audits.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise aquatics staff; promote succession.
• Collaborate to promote Safe Start survival swim within overall programming and member engagement.
• Direct staff to support retention goals and analyze data for growth opportunities.
• Ensure correct implementation of schedules and safety plans; maintain standards.
• Coordinate pool inspections, maintenance, and equipment with facilities team.
• Manage program budgets; control salaries and supplies to meet net margins.
• Assist in recruiting volunteers for fundraising campaigns.
• Maintain required safety certifications and lead trainings per guidelines.
• Document pool operation compliance.
